I'm afraid if I poop too hard, I'll start labour.

Dignity? Pfft. Silly girl.

If you're pushing and straining in the same area that you'll be pushing and straining in during labor couldn't you accidentally push the baby out? In short, no.

Constipation is often a charming accessory that comes with pregnancy so it may add to your straining fears. It will not cause a miscarriage that wasn't going to happen anyway and, well, it's important to poo. Hemorrhoids are a more likely outcome but... You know what? Forget you read that. It's all good. You're a glowing vessel of life so live in ignorance for as long as you can, my little petal.

Now go poo.

When I was in my first trimester I was so constipated I was stuck in the restroom AT WORK for almost half an hour! After that, I had to tell everyone that I was pregnant just in case I went missing again.

I've since upped my water intake and now drink enough to float a battleship and thankfully have had no more episodes. I'm praying to the baby Jesus that hemorrhoids pass me by. I wonder if I can put a mark on my door or something?

I have the absolute opposite problem; one could set their watch to my BM's. I wasn't this regular before I got pregnant...must be all of the fruit and whole grains. Only problem is, when I gotta go, I GOTTA GO!

Senokot 4 or 5 times a week (at my OBGYN's suggestion) and lots of water. That did it nicely for me...

My prenatal vitamins made me so constipated, until I started taking 250 mg of magnesuim. I also added in 600 mg of calcium daily when I started craving milk, and the craving went away. I guess it's true that sometimes you'll crave something that you're lacking in your diet.

Little caveat...I had complete placenta previa (the placenta completely and wholly covers the opening of the cervix), and so in the 3rd trimester, when I was constipated and pushed to poo, blood came out. And the issues with placenta previa is if the bleeding doesn't stop ASAP, the baby has to come out. I was 32 weeks when I was sitting on the pot cursing constipation and when I got up, a heavy-period amount of blood came dripping down...luckily, the bleeding stopped obviously slowed within a few minutes and stopped within an hour. But, colace was my dear friend and constipation and any straining was my foe until my baby was delivered safely at 37 weeks by c-section!

Uhg, this one is funny, I thought it would be AFTER the baby was born that I'd be scared to poo. If I'm already scared now I bet it'll be LOADS of fun after labor. Its goes either way, the runs or constipation and hemorrhoids. WOOT. Guess the wonderful thing about pregnancy is you lose all shame. haha

To Judy, I had tore pretty bad with my first (8lbs, 95% in head, and sunny side up :(...) and let me tell you, that was not a fun experience to go to the bathroom after I had her.... OUCH! also soemthing I'm not looking forward to now as I am prego again.

I began experiencing constipation in my 1st trimester. My grandmother jokingly suggested I eat Krystals to fix the problem. I seriously ate Krystal's ONE time after that, and have been regular since. Coincidence? Maybe. Will I immediately go to Krystal's next time I'm constipated? You betcha!!!

DON'T PUSH! Pushing can cause sub chorionic bleeds, not just hemorroids. I ended up finding out I was in pre-term labor because I pushed and out came my mucous plug (at 20 weeks). This shouldn't happen to others, but with my new pregnancy I live on fiber, prunes and colace. BE CAREFUL!!!!

Prunes, colace, Rasin bran and veggies! Even if they make you gag and smell like death (thank you preggo hormones...) eat them. It will change your life. A little lactobacillus from CVS won't hurt either. Don't strain! Go for a walk, or exercises, which gets the bowels moving. I'm 18 wks and I was also stuck in the bathroom at work for about 15 minutes one night, and being an ER nurse, that wasn't a good idea... they thought I left. Once remembering I was pregnant, they took it easy on me. On week 18 right now! Started this morning with raisin bran and OJ... and it's like clock-work.
Cheers, ladies!

I was very constipated during my 3rd trimester. That's how/when my water broke and I went into labor...sitting in the bathroom, trying to go #2.

Try Benefiber! It is easy to take and was a relief after several months of poo that was hard as a rock.

I battled with constipation BEFORE I got pregnant, now it's 10x worse. I do notice that exercise helps keep me more regular though. And the occasional Phillips.
