Can falling while pregnant hurt the baby?
As a teenager, I remember watching soap operas where a character would climb up two rungs of a step ladder to fix a curtain, fall off and miscarry. All I could think was "No, not the step ladder! Don't you know you're going to fall off and lose the baby, Sienna!!?"
Turns out that's an unlikely scenario.
There is a good chance that you'll fall during your pregnancy because you're off balance and there's a fair amount of time when you can't see the ground or your feet.
It looks like the worst part about falling is you can't just pop up and do that I-can't-believe-I-did-that look then move on. Odds are you'll be an overturned turtle with a horrified audience asking if you're okay (they may even call you soap opera names so don't be alarmed). That said, your baby is pretty cushioned in there so your average spill shouldn't do anything except embarrass you (again, all preparation for having a child). Not until you get into the major wipeouts or if weird stuff (like spotting or cramping) should there be any cause for alarm.
Just be sure to always wear clean underwear so when you've missed the curb in a busy intersection and your moo moo flies up over your head people won't whisper "Ew, Sienna's wearing ratty underpants".

I so agree with this statement, I fell down a flight of stairs at the local YMCA when I was 7 months prego. I was so stunningly embarassed, but everyone else was so over concerned. I blame my shoes and the lack of balance of my 3rd pregnancy. My husband blames the rain. Whatever it was, I felt like an ass, and tried to get everyone to stop looking.
This is a great blog I'm glad someone suggested you on facebook!
might I suggest one of those wonderful undie liners too, I don't know what it is with babies and sitting on bladders, but all three of mine did just that, and every trip or fall included a bit of pee. Embarrasing to fall, and annoying to have lightly peed your undies.
I fell when I was 6 months or so. I had the flu and was trying to make a mad dash to the restroom to puke.. didn't make it. We have tile floors so I puked all over the floor, stepped in it, slipped and fell in it and continued to puke all over myself.. Thank God it was just me and hubby at home. This happened at 2am, so hubby was in bed. He slowly opened the bedroom door, looked at me, and said "you ok?" I just looked at him, nodded, and told him to shut the door before he joined me.. lol.. He didn't look like he could handle seeing the puke much longer. lol. As for me, I cleaned myself and the floor up, jumped in the shower, and went back to bed. I called the dr in the morning but he said it was fine as long as I wasn't cramping or bleeding. All that was hurt was my butt and my pride.
I slipped and fell in the shower when I was almost 6 month pregnant, and tried not to worry about it. My midwife went all ballistic on me a week later at our regular appointment, telling me that I have to go to the hospital for a shot of Anti-D ANYTIME I fall, because I have Rh-negative blood. WHAT!??! No one tells you that! I thought I was so good for not being a hyper worry-wort pregnant lady, and then the midwife goes all mental on me. Dang.
I fell at 21 weeks and bounced down the stairs like a basket ball. I went into labor and after 2 days of being in the hosp and making sure my peanut was ok they where able to stop my labor with meds that had horrible side effects on me but I was more concerned for my baby so I didnt mind much. So I would call your dr no matter what even if its just for peace of mind.
When I was around 6 weeks I was picking apples and fell out of the tree. My back hurt but that was all. Now I am about 3 weeks away from D-day!
